When looking at the classes' blogs I learned that there are a lot of people between the two classes that are really talented! I was surprised at how creative people were, it definitely inspired me to make my blog better. Also, I was somewhat surprised by the people who only had one or two posts. I am not saying this in a mean way, because everyone writes at their own pace, I guess after this many weeks in class I would expect more.
ReplyDeleteAs I said above I was definitely inspired, especially when I saw the other fashion blog. I was thinking wait her blog is better than mine, so not okay! So I would say that I was inspired to make my blog a better version of itself.
If we had a most improved category and I wanted to win it, I guess I would start looking at the small things that I currently am overlooking. One of them being music, I really want my blog to have music when people look at it, but I have no idea how to do that. I would probably sharpen my writing more, right now it is just what I think instantly, and proof read once.
The assignment was very productive for me, since it basically forced me to browsed around on other blogs.I was definitely intrigued by all the topics that were being addressed, a few definitely caught my attention and I will be following them. I plan on working on my blogs by sharing more personal stories, work-out tips, a blogroll, and overall just brushing up on my writing. The idea of having a most improved category would be great! Since there are tons of blogs that need recognition that did not win an award(in my opinion).
ReplyDeleteAfter reading through all the blogs, I am sensing that many people are probably starting to like it more than they expected. Even though some people don't have the minimum number of required posts right now, I do think that some do have a more thought-intensive topic than others and requires more time to produce a great quality post. I see that there are a lot of excellent writers that have many good and lengthy analytical posts. I enjoyed reading through them and perhaps one thing I haven't done that I should start doing is leaving a reply or feedback.
ReplyDeleteI was inspired by all the people who put time and effort into their Blogs, not just in writing but also in visuals. If I could make mine better I would be more personal, more expressive and bring up more subjects that questions/challenges a persons thought.
After reading through many blogs, some in our class and others not, I learned a lot. It was interesting to see the different topics people chose to talk about. Many of them were very well written. I found it fun to read through blogs about the different topics. I actually learned a lot just from the few that I read. I found it helpful because I feel that I can get an idea of what others are blogging about, or the style of their writing. I feel inspired by some of these blogs because of how well put together many of them are. It makes me want to keep working on my blog as well. If I were trying to win the most improved category, I would probably go more in detail on my topic. I would try and make the overall blog flow better. That is an issue that I seem to always have when writing. These blogs gave me a good idea on how to get started with that.
ReplyDeleteFrom the blog awards, I learned a lot about other classmates. It gives me an idea about what each individual have their interest on. And through their blog, they express their interest, information about it and their own perspective about it as well. And from their blog, we can all tell that each person has put a lot of time and effort into their blog. I inspired after seeing and reading other classmates blogs because I feel when compared to my own, I need to input more work. I was impressed by the design of others blogs and definitely the content. If we had a most improved award, I would try to design my blog to be more reader friendly. And somehow make the topic of NBA to be more interesting to maybe non sports fans. I noticed a lot of my posts are pretty long, I guess that can turn readers away especially since maybe the titles aren’t so attention grabbing and the graphics aren’t the most top notch. I also would try to design my blog to be more sporty looking like, I think my design currently is too plain.
ReplyDeleteThe spring 2011 blog award nominations was an interesting way for our classmates to get more involved in viewing more of our classmates blogs. In all honesty, until the award nominations I have only viewed about 60% of the blogs and the blogs that I have viewed have been the ones viewed and critiqued in class. There were various people nominated and a majority nominated over and over by our classmates and it’s understandable for those nominated multiple times for multiple categories because they had an abundant amount of creativity or insight or even both. Not one blog was the same, everyone had their own unique addition to their blogs. The whole experience motivated me to try harder with my blog. I want to be able to be nominated in the next blog awards. I am in the process of making my blog look better and have more information. The hardest part for me with everything is starting. Im highly critical about my work and beginning a project is always the longest process only because I want it to be the best. I want my layout to be the way I want it to be before I want to start blogging. I have my blogs in a word document saved on my computer finished but not posted only because I feel like my layout isn’t what I want it to be, it does not represent what my blog is meant to be. By the time the next blog awards come around, I hope that my blog would at least be nominated for 1 of the categories. If there was a most improved category I would definitely want my blog to win because my blog right now is far from what I hope for it to look like and the writing I want to accomplish. This experience has definitely inspired me to be more active in my writing and my blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat I learned about reading our classmates' blogs, were that everyone approached their topics in different ways (pictures, videos, explanations, etc.) I was surprised to know how creative my classmates' are in writing and design; every blog looked really amazing! Also, some topics were interesting and new to read about, so at the same time I am learning about a new concept. I was inspired by my classmates' blogs after viewing them because they helped give me ideas for my future blogging. Also, I was inspired to learn about their concepts, and research a little more of what the individual would have to say. If we had a "most improved" category, I would work on my writing because it lacks a more "professional tone" since I am writing about a type of science, and I want to make it seem like I know what I am writing about.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the blogs for the Blog Award activity, it seemed as though everyone is really good at writing and that the JEPET is a very invalid way to test a students ability to write at upper division English. The creativity that is shown throughout all of the blogs was very inspiring and is kind of getting me at a competitive level on trying to improve my creativity. Usually I am not one to compete but this is a lot of fun and I'm sure I am not speaking for myself. Some of the blogs that I read made me think a lot or something new I just learned like trolling as well as others making me smile.
ReplyDeleteIf there was a "most improved" category, I would definitely have to be more creative to even compete with most of them and do some revision. Also, I would probably have to post more pictures and make the blogs more interesting when mostly I write about myself as if I'm writing in a journal.
I really enjoyed getting to read everyone's blogs and seeing what other people were interested in! Honestly, I thought all the blogs were really good! My group and I had a hard time picking out certain blogs because we saw so many blogs with great potential. The topics were interesting and I was fascinated to see what people were reading and writing about.
ReplyDeleteOut of the three awards that I won, my favorite by far was the "best emotional appeal" one. I am so passionate about my topic and my goal was raise awareness for animals and change people's perspectives. When I received that award I felt more inspired than ever. If there was a most improved category I probably wouldn't change my blog in any way except to keep riding more entertaining blogs that people are interested in reading.
I enoyed looking at other peoples blogs. I was suprised to find that some of what people are writing about in their blogs can be applied to my blog in a couple ways. I didnt think that I would find many connections between my topic and others but there were a number of things that i thought were relevant to mine. All the blogs looked really good were interesting. I also like seeing other blogs becuase it gave me some new ideas to write about that i had not thought of before. I dont think i would change much on my blog if there was a most improved category; i like how its going right now.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other students in that this exercise was fun & interesting. The variety of blog topics and designs made this "research project" more interesting than say, "researching a textbook". I don't know if anyone else picked up on this, but I think blogger.com design templates are very mundane compared to tumblr, posterous and wordpress. I noticed that it was easier to tell what the blog was going to be about when they were writing using the blog platforms described above. The quality of writing was "what I would expect of a college graduate", which makes me question the validity of the JEPET. Each of the blogs shared information effectively in a clear & concise manner. As for the "Most Improved" category, I would work on the category that I won an award for - "Best Design". I feel as though my design is the weak area of my blog and was awed by the designs of the other blogs out there...
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying reading everyone's blog since they are amazing. That is out of my expectation! I have learned how to being creative, humor and emotional while presenting in blog. I am inspired by the tone voice that they wrote, that was so influent while reading. Actually I Love the that showing fashion.
ReplyDeleteIf there is Most Improved" category, I would pay more attention on the humor category to win it.
After going through the blogs, I learned a lot about everyone’s interests. Everyone chose a variety of topics and they write differently. Even if some had the same topic, what they wrote about is still different. No two blogs are the same. It was really cool to see what people want to talk about for the whole semester, or maybe longer. I like that definitions are including for people who don’t know the terminology.
ReplyDeleteI was inspired by my classmates. I was jealous because they had longer posts, and I felt that my posts weren’t that long. Hopefully I can have longer posts in the weeks to come. Also, some of their layouts were really appealing. Some designs really worked with their topics and their tone of their blogs.
If there was a “most improved” category, I’d like to be the winner. I don’t know what I would change but if there any suggestions, and I felt it would help my blog then I’d make the change.
I learned a lot of things from reading my classmates’ blogs. Reading their blogs, I learned about different posting methods can keep the readers interested. I also learned about how powerful images and humor can be. When I read the students’ posts, I also learned about society, saving money and a little bit about myself.
ReplyDeleteSeeing everyone’s colorful and inventive blogs, it made me want to remodel my blog design as well. Some of classmates’ designs reminded me of like magazines and other websites that I have been to. I am also inspired to putting up more pictures, because pictures really make the blog lively and it can help the reader connect better to what I am trying to say as well.
If there was a most improved category, I would try to incorporate more pictures and come up with a better design for my blog, because I still believe that appeal is what draws in the reader to read and that is what I will aim for. As for the next category it would be to improve my content, because with a viewing base, I would need good material to retain them.
After reading my classmates blogs, I've definitely been inspired to work harder and improve my own. A lot of blogs were so interesting, and even got me read them outside of class, on my own time. What I've learned from reading them was not to be afraid to be yourself when blogging. I still feel I'm writing for school, and not even purposely. A lot of good blogs had a strong voice, and knew who their audience was. I was inspired to improve the content of my blog, and to put more of my passion into writing than worrying about the grammar. If there is to be a 'Most Improved' award, I would definitely work on my writing. After all, this is an English class! I was honored to be nominated for 'Best Design', 'Best Topic', and 'Best Overall'. I was surprised, actually! Thank you to those that took my blog into consideration! :) In return, I will improve my writing and give you all stronger and more in depth content to read.
ReplyDeleteSurfing through all of my fellow classmate’s blogs, I realized nearly everyone seemed to be passionate about their blogs and the specific discussion topic. It is nice to see students, particularly college students who are seniors about to graduate, get the opportunity to free write and not worry about papers being due or having to take in class essays. The blog awards were an excellent way to display the work and effort the students have put into their blogs. Yea, some people’s blogs needed more content but you could really tell everyone had designed and filled their page with some good stuff. You can really tell how blogging is going to be the way of the future considering mass media. Most information is already on the internet and seeing how easy it is to blog your own information for everyone else in the world to see is an amazing ability. If there was a best improved award, the page must have been terrible prior to the 1st evaluation and then have an abundance of good rich material with come creativity supporting it. Hopefully the blogs continue to develop and we all keep having fun with them. - Topher
ReplyDeleteSo this activity actually had an impact on how I need to improve my blogging. Looking through other peoples blogs I got a sense of what blogs are good, what are bad and what are great. In this sense it sort of gave me a blue print into how I can differentiate between each. I now I have a better understanding what it will take to make my blog from alright to good to great.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this activity, it in a way forced people to look at each other blogs and made us look at them in different way then we normally would if we just were to read over them. As the writer of the blogs, i was surprised as to how people saw my blog. It made me want to do better and make my blog more worthy of the awards.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this assignment cause it really helped all of us get off our asses and actually look through and read the entire ENG 414 class blogs. It definitely opened up my eyes to unique and creative topics, not to mention how those authors went about writing those topics. It made me more aware of what the general audience likes and what interests them, which could improve my writing and presentation.
ReplyDeleteThe Blog Awards was a great idea because it actually forced me to read everyone's blog. The assignment helped me learn a lot about a number of different topics, and also gave me ideas on how to improve my own blog. Blogging in English class is an incredible idea, it actually gets students excited about reading and writing. It is easy to see that students are passionate about the topics they are writing about. I do feel like we should add a "most improved" award, because it will encourage students (especially me) to try harder. The biggest thing I need to do for my blog is to find more articles to write about! I am just having trouble finding articles that both relate to my topic and grab my attention at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this class activity. Being able to read other people’s blogs helped me to see the different styles of writing. From this activity I was able to learn a little more about each topic. They were topic that kept me wanting to read more. I really liked how every one has a different creative way of writing and design. If we had a “most improved” category I would definitely work on my writing because I feel I’m lacking something. I would also work on the design, I would try bringing in images related to my topic.
ReplyDeleteWhen looking at the award winning blogs, I find myself getting interested in what others are reading and looking at. The blogs with the most votes as winning blogs all have a few tings in common. They were all topics that, even though it is of the writers interest, are topics that are open to any readers and connects to their readers. They also have a lot of context in their topic, which shows their information. From this, I realized that I should incorporate more individuality. A majority of my blogs does not flow and makes me sound like a robot. After review my peers blog, I will work on a better design and work on making my blog flow and transition better.
ReplyDeleteThe blog awards really helped us go through all the blogs in class. We were able to look through the different styles of writing people had. We are also able to see which blogs stood out the most and were the most intriguing. I think that the blog awards gave us examples to follow to make our own blogs better.
